STUDIO
where creativity becomes connection
I painted today.
Not because I had an idea. Not because inspiration struck. Mostly because I didn’t know what else to do with myself.
The studio was quiet except for the familiar sounds—the scrape of canvas against the wall, water clouding in a jar, a brush dropped somewhere behind me that I’ll find three weeks from now. The paint dried on my hands before I noticed it was there.
I’ve started to realize painting isn’t really about making paintings.
It’s about sitting with something long enough to understand it.
A color I hated an hour ago suddenly makes sense. A mark I almost painted over becomes my favorite part. Things work themselves out when I stop forcing them. Maybe people do too.
Sometimes I stand back and see pieces of myself all over the canvas. Not the obvious parts. The parts I don’t say out loud. The waiting. The longing. The hope. The anger. The softness I pretend isn’t there.
It’s strange to spend hours making something that may never belong to anyone else.
But maybe that’s what I love most about it.
For a little while, nothing is required of me except to keep going. One brushstroke. Then another. Then another.
And somehow, by the end of the day, the painting knows more about me than I do.
