where creativity becomes connection
28. 2026
In the not-so-distant past, Em and I found ourselves talking about now.
Not tomorrow.
Not five years from now, when everyone sleeps through the night.
Not when the house is cleaner,
or the diapers are gone,
or the toys stop migrating across every square inch of the floor.
Just… now.
Her baby still curls perfectly into her chest.
Her toddler is somehow already too big to be called a baby, but still little enough to reach for a hand without thinking.
One needs everything.
The other is already practicing independence.
And somehow they’re both disappearing at the exact same speed.
We talked about how easy it is to wish ourselves into the next version of life.
To count down until things become easier.
Quieter.
Cleaner.
More predictable.
But the beautiful part is hiding inside the inconvenient part.
The interrupted conversations.
The sticky fingers.
The toys under bare feet.
The endless questions.
The laundry that somehow reproduces overnight.
None of it stays.
Not the hard parts.
Not the magical parts.
That’s the cruel little trick of life—they leave together.
I think that’s why motherhood,
friendship,
grief,
falling in love,
even growing older…
they all feel so similar.
They ask the same impossible thing of us:
Please notice this before it becomes a story you tell.
The ugly and the breathtaking aren’t opposites.
They’re roommates.
One gives the other its meaning.
Years from now, there won’t be a memory of every sleepless night,
and the babies won’t remember being carried from the car asleep on a shoulder.
But their bodies will.
Love leaves fingerprints in places memory can’t always reach.
So today we made a quiet promise—
not to chase the next chapter quite so fast.
To let the dishes wait sometimes.
To stare a little longer.
To laugh at the chaos instead of organizing it immediately.
To kiss little foreheads one extra time.
Because now is already changing shape.
And someday,
we’ll ache for the version of today we were lucky enough to live through
without realizing we were standing in it.
There is no time to not live in the now.
